The Making of Jakers! Designing a World:
The Making of Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks

By Executive Producer Mike Young

From Thin Air to Plump Piggley

Like any other creative endeavour, Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks started with an idea. In this case, the idea took the form of a beguiling Irish pig. The fledgling children's programming company Entara, based in the UK, owned a character known as Piggley. But as yet, Piggley had no pen, so to speak-no outline, no home, no context. That's where we came in.

This was to be Entara's first foray into kids television, and executive producers Stéphanie Gougeon and Louisa Stretton were just beginning to build relationships in the animation industry. As luck would have it, they contacted me about the project just as I was on my way to the United Kingdom. When we met in London, we quickly realized we shared a passion to develop quality children's programming that would transcend national borders and languages. And young Piggley would be the perfect ambassador.
